Reds hosts Owls in Pre Season opener on Saturday

An tough but exciting preseason programme starts in earnest for Alfreton Town on Saturday as Championship heavy weights Sheffield Wednesday provide a stern test in our opening pre season run out ahead of the 2024/25 season.

After the bitter disappointment and agony of the play off exit to Boston United who like Kidderminster the previous campaign went on to earn promotion to the National League after conquering the Reds Alfreton Town have retained a strong core of the squad that enjoyed such a memorable campaign last time out.
As many as 13 players have agreed to remain a Reds player including but not limited to George Willis, Adam Lund, Josh Clackstone,Dwayne Wiley, Nathan Newall, George Willis, Harry Perritt, Billy Fewster, Liam Waldock, Jake Day and Lewis Salmon.

Billy Heath has bolstered his squad in the close season with the addition of centre half Max Hunt from Derbyshire Rivals Buxton and he was joined by fellow defender Adam Anson from who arrived from divisional rivals Southport.

With more signings to be announced soon it promises to be a thrilling pre season for the Reds.

Our opponents Sheffield Wednesday are no stranger to a visit to the Impact Arena. After an abject start to the Championship season which saw them floundering at the bottom but the appointment of German Danny Rohl who can be seen recently as part of ITV`s punditry team at Euro 2024, proved to be something of a master stroke as he inspired a remarkable revival which saw the Owls recover to beat the drop.

Sheffield Wednesday have not messed about in making additions to their squad with as many as five players signed ahead of the start of pre season.
Alfreton got a notable 0-0 draw against the South Yorkshire side in 2022 and infamously won 14-0 under the management of Reds Legend Nicky Law.
