This may never have shaped up to be a classic encounter, but make no mistake this was a well-earned respectable point for the Reds at a difficult venue against second place King's Lynn.
A defensive master class reduced the hosts to a solitary shot on target, whilst Alfreton had a contentious off-side decision rule out Lewis Salmon's 35th minute conversion of Nathan Newall's deep cross, then in the second half Billy Fewster had an effort scrambled off the line by Freddie Sass and a penalty shout was ignored when Jake Day appeared to be impeded over as he ran into the area.
The Reds had started brightly with both Newall and Liam Waldock going close, yet Jonny Margetts should have given Lynn the lead when squandering an inviting delivery from Josh McCammon.
Josh Hmami then had a shot blocked as he shaped to shoot before the impetus of the frenetic opening descended into a prolonged lull, with only Salmon's disallowed goal of any noteworthy activity for the remainder of the first half.
Although Alfreton were forced to soak up a lot of pressure after the break they did so with commendable efficiency, with only a Margetts free-kick on 74 minutes requiring a somewhat routine save from George Willis.
Meanwhile, as sporadic as Alfreton's attacks were they very nearly paid off, with Day's header under pressure from Newall's 78th minute cross clearing the bar and four minutes later Fewster's shot being hacked clear from a long Adam Lund throw.
