Reds get much needed win to record first league double of the season

Its not been a January to remember for Alfreton Town but Billy Heath`s side finished the month on a high as they comprehensively dispatched relegation threatened Farsley Celtic 4-1 on a cold Friday evening under the lights at Buxton FC`s Tarmac Silverlands Stadium.

The victory ended a run of five straight National League North defeats and in truth never looked in doubt against a young and inexperienced Farsley Celtic outfit as Ofton lifted themselves to 11th in the league standings.

The Reds looked strong and purposeful from the start as logged to impose themselves on the Celts who have had well documented issues with the pitch at their Citadel home which means they are playing home games currently at Buxton.

With just six minutes on the watch the Reds hit the front Jake Day flicked on a long ball to the onrushing Lewis Salmon down the flank and put the ball on a plate for waldock to notch his first league goal since November.
Farsley reacted well to falling behind as Joao Silva showed good feet to skip past a trio of challenges before firing a low shot wide from the edge of the box.
A neat corner routine on 12 minutes led the ball being cut back to the edge of the box for Jed Abbey to strike from the edge of the box with lewis Salmon alomost getting a telling touch on the effort at the back post.

The Reds continued to create chances at will as after an initial free kick wasnt dealt with on 14 minutes Jed Abbey forced a smart save from Farsley keeper Will Brook at his near post.
The Reds created a trio of chances to extend their advantage on 17 as Waldock was denied by Brook at close quarters before a brave block from a Celtic Defender - the ball then bouncing out to Jed abbey saw his well struck shot tipped over the bar.
The cascade of chances continued for Alfreton as Abbey hit the woodwork before the linesman flag denied him. Salmon looked to have been caught in the area by the keeper just before th half hour while Abbey cracked a ferocious shot against the bar on 32 as the Reds laid siege to the Farsley goal.
Ofton finally got the second goal their domination had warranted when Jake Day took his season tally to seven as headed home a Adam Lund long throw.

Alfreton helped themselves to a third before the half time interval as jake Day lobbed the goalkeeper before a Farsley defender blocked on the line before Liam Waldock bundled the ball in to the next for his second of the game to take his season tally to 10.

Alfreton made it 4-0 on 64 minutes as Lewis Salmon who had been impressive all evening got in the act as he find the net after another Adam Lunnd long throw had been flicked on by David Solademi.

Farsley continued to battle gamely and grabbed a consolation on 66 as Joao Silva embarked on a lovely run before switching the ball on to his other foot and slotting the ball smartly past Robson.

Alfreton were denied a stonewall late penalty on 83 minutes when Jake Day looked to be unceremoniously fouled in the area.
Late Substitute Kobe Hall struck the outside of the post with a superb dead ball freekick in the final seconds of the game as Alfreton finished the game strongly.
The win was the first time Alfreton had scored 4 on a artificial pitch and won by a 3 goal margin on the surface.
Next up is the visit of out of form Southport to the Impact Arena on Tuesday night.
