lt was a frustrating trip to Chester for all concerned with Alfreton Town as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Chester last Saturday.
Despite losing their fourth game on the trot other results barely affected their standing in the National League North and the Reds remain in the top half of the table.
A fervent defensive performance had seen the hosts largely contained, but once the opening goal had arrived with 19 minutes remaining it became difficult to get a foothold back into the game.
First half opportunities for the home side fell to
lwan Murray, Kurt Willoughby and Tom Peers, but all were successfully blocked, whilst Alfreton'a best chance of the opening period was Gerry McDonagh's receipt of a through-ball from George Cantrill before slipping as he shaped to shoot.
After the break Chester began to press deeper and deeper and despite creating few openings struck in the 71st minute from a right-flank corner with Harrison Burke slotting home from close range after Connell Rawlinson had seen his effort rebound off the upright.
Peers made sure of the points on 82 minutes when he ran on to a deep cross to dink the ball neatly over exposed keeper
David Robson.
The Reds to their credit kept trying to force a way back, but late efforts from subs Jake Day and Josh Clackstone were only rewarded by corners as each was diverted behind.
