Match Report: Alfreton Town 0-0 Hereford FC

Towerzey Lisa5 Oct - 20:52

Reds make it 5 draws in six games in bore impact Arena draw

It was a warm and sunny October afternoon on Saturday as Alfreton hosted Hereford FC in National League North after an impromptu two weeks away from action due to two postponements of the still outstanding FA Cup tie with Biggleswade Town

The visitors had an early chance to take the lead in the second minute after a brilliant effort from Akeem Rose went fizzing just over the bar from the right hand side.

Alfreton had a similar opportunity a few minutes later, with Billy Fewster striking one over the bar from range in an entertaining start to the game.

The home side grew into the game more and more in the first half as Liam Waldock won a free kick on 14 minutes before taking the deadball himself. However the Hereford keeper Aaron Chapman was equal to the low drilled effort

Whitehouse was growing into the game more and more as the game progressed, with him and Fewster proving to be good wide threats.

There was a small stoppage in play midway through the first half as Adam Lund received treatment after a crunching tackle from the visitors.

Hereford had their best period of the first half around the half hour mark, with a couple of corners and some good possession in the final third. Alfreton defended it well, however.

Former Alfreton player Yusifu Ceesay had a chance for the visitors on the stroke of half time but George Willis was equal to the effort as Ceesay looked to loft the ball over the shot stopper.

After the break, the Reds almost managed to capitalise on a mistake from the Hereford centre back, but the effort was tame the rebounds came to nothing.

The visitors had control of the first period of the first half, and looked the more threatening side. Ahkeem Rose was looking lively for the away side who were growing into it more and more.

A substitution each was made as both sides attempted to switch things up to try and find a goal.

Halfway through the second half it looked like if there was to be a winner it would be the visitors, they were pushing for it and had a couple of good openings but neither side really looked like scoring.

The visitors did find the net on 73 minutes, Ahkeem Rose thought he’d put his team ahead but the linesman flagged for offside, much to Alfreton`s relief

Both sides pushed for a breakthrough but defences were on top as Alfreton made it 20 home matches unbeaten in all competitions 11 matches undefeated since the opening day of the season and 10 matches unbeaten against the Bulls

The referee added 3 minutes on at the end of the game, but neither side could find a way through and the game petered out, with it ending 0-0 at the Impact.

Attendance 734
