MATCH PREVIEW: Farsley Celtic v Alfreton Town

MATCH PREVIEW: Farsley Celtic v Alfreton Town

Towerzey Lisa29 Jan - 19:47

Out of form Reds look for boost against depleted Celts

For the second time this season Alfreton Town will enjoy some Friday night action under the lights when they make the relatively short trip to the Silverlands Stadium, home of Buxton FC to face crisis club Farsley Celtic.

Earlier in the season, the Reds had made a similarly short trip to Meadow Lane to face Notts County in an historic First Round Tie for the club.
The Reds were riding high in the league at the time back in November but a run of just 2 wins in the last 11 in all competitions and more recently five straight leave defeats has seen Alfreton slip out of the promotion picture.

Indeed the Reds have not lost six games in succession for nearly eight years (March to April 2017)
After the visit of Leamington to the Impact Arena was postponed on Tuesday Alfreton`s last outing was a disappointing defeat to bottom of the table Needham Market on Saturday. Two goals from the visitors in added time at the end of the game overturned the game after an Lewis Salmon brace had given the Reds a commanding 2-0 lead against the Marketmen.
Just four points separate the bottom six now in National League North in a tight and congested relegation battle.

Alfreton are yet to pick up a single point in an arduous January so far and boss Billy Heath will be eager to halt the poor run as soon as possible to stop the reds being dragged further down the table.

Farsley Celtic have had well documented issues with the pitch at Thostle Nest all season.
After their manager and several first team players due to the ongoing issues behind the scenes the Celts have signed a groundshare agreement with Buxton for their remaining home fixtures this season.
Farsley recently dropped in to the bottom four after a run of five games without a win and with Alfreton rock bottom of the form guide its certainly a clash of two teams out of form on Friday.

Despite this the game presents a good opportunity for the Reds to steady the ship somewhat in the league ahead of a number of long away trips at Scarborough, Spennymoor Hereford and South Shields in February.

Farsley recently announced the appointment of former Leeds,Rotherham and Scarborough manager Neil Redfearn. Redfearn has also had a number of roles in the Womens game at Doncaster Belles, Liverpool and Sheffield United Women
