Reds travel north looking for win to all but secure safety

With the top two tiers of English on a break for the March international window this weekend has been designated this season`s official Non League Day 2025 as the Reds make the journey to Lancashire to face play off hopefuls Chorley in National League North.
Despite the fact Alfreton have slipped to 18th in the league standings and the winless run has grown to nine games after the latest draw against Darlington FC at the Impact Tuesday, there have been clear indications of recent improvements in performances.
The aforementioned defeat to Darlington on Tuesday night was arguably Alfreton`s best performance at home of the calendar year. Altrincham loanee Owen German grabbed his chance of a first start to put in an eye catching, impressive display while new goalkeeper George Sykes-Kenworthy signed on loan from National League side York City prior to the game pulled off a number of saves on debut.

Alfreton started with a real intent and purpose against the Quakers who sit 11th in the league table. Several corners and after a few squandered chances Lewis Salmon gave the Reds the lead with his 11th of the season taking him level at the top of the goalscorer charts with team mates Jed Abbey and Liam Waldock.
Alfreton continued to be in the ascendancy but failed to convert their dominance in to a second goal. To their credit Darlington pushed in the closing stages to find a way back in to the game and substitute Matty Cornish`s neat finish brought Darlington level on 88 minutes much to the frustration of the Reds.
Billy Heath`s men will be disappointed to have let go of a golden opportunity to end the run of winless matches which now stands at 9
The worst run under the management of Billy Heath was towards the end of the 2018/19 season and the start of the 2019/20 season which was 10.
If Alfreton are to avoid matching that run they will need to beat Chorley, a team who sit in seventh place within the play off places with eight games to go.
Despite their position in the table Chorley`s recent results have been patchy at best. In recent weeks Andy Preece`s side have drawn at relegation threatened Warrington and last time out lost away at Needham Market last Saturday.
On their own patch however the Magpies have the second best record in the league and will be looking to pick another three points on Saturday
