The tough schedule for Alfreton Town continues on Saturday as they travel to the North West to face in form Chester FC in their latest National League North assignment.
its been a difficult few weeks for the Reds.
A midweek home defeat to perennial play off challengers Brackley by the odd goal in seven on Tuesday night made it three straight league defeats for the Reds,
Alfreton had taken an early lead through a struck of luck after an own goal from the Brackley keeper Johnny Maxted. However the response from Brackley was swift as they led 3-1 just past the however. A first half to forget for Maxted was compounded when he sent Waldock sprawling as last man in first half injury time. Jed Abbey duly dispatched the set piece and minutes in to the second period Max Hunt`s third goal of the season completed a remarkable turnaround against the 10 man Saints.
While Alfreton dominated possession and territory for the remainder of the second my met stiff resistance from Brackley and failed to test an uneasy stand in goalkeeper in George Carline. Alfreton`s frustration was compounded when Brackley capitalised on a lapse at the back as Matt Lowe scored in the final minute of the ninety to dramatically snatch all three points for the visitors.
With news that George Willis is out for the season and Billy Fewster has an issue which is going to keep him out for a period of time its not set to get easier with a trip to inform Chester.
The Seals are unbeaten in five matches which has seen Callum Macintyre men rise to fifth place just three points behind leaderrs Kidderminster harriers although Harriers do have a game in hand.
Chester have scored 8 goals on their travels this week in wins over Buxton (4-2} and Leamington 4-1.
Leamington who visit the Impact Arena at the end of the month have been rocked by the loss of top scorer Callum Stewart to League One Shrewsbury Town. Similarly Chester have lost the services of Charlie Caton who scored both goals for the Cheshire side in the reverse fixture at the Impact Arena back in August as he has left for League Two side Accrington Stanley.
This means three of the top five goalscorers this season in National League North are no longer playing in the division.
Alfreton have only won 1 of their last 12 meetings with Chester but that victory did come in the corresponding fixture last season when a Ken Digie brace secured a momentual win on the road on one of the best Afternoons of last season.
Their overall record with Chester is W2 D6 L6 with the Reds actually unbeaten in six meetings after a glut of draws in the fixture.
