Alfreton Town continue their festive fixture programme with a visit to fellow Derbyshire outfit Buxton on Boxing Day. While this pairing has become a tradition since the Bucks were promoted to this level it will be the first time Alfreton will be making the short trip to Silverlands to lock horns with the Bucks on Boxing Day having hosted Buxton in the previous two seasons
Alfreton are unbeaten in all league Meetings between the sides in National League North with three wins and a draw to their name including a pair of 2-1 victories last year to record a league double over Thursday`s opponents.
The Reds head in to the clash on the back of an vital 2-1 home win over relegation threatened Radcliffe. A goal from top scorer Jed Abbey in the first 100 seconds took him to double figures for the season before David Moyo added a second in the second as he found himself on the score sheet for the first time in several months. While Radcliffe pulled a goal back through former Matlock Town player Danny Greenfield, the Reds held on to secure a deserved victory thanks to another resolute defensive display.
The victory moved Billy Heath`s side back in to the top seven at the expense of Buxton who dropped to eigth after a surprise 1-0 loss at struggling Warrington. The Yellows were without a win in ten prior to Buxton`s visit on Saturday. This left John McGraths side with a record of 11 wins, 2 draws and nine defeats to date with 35 points.
John McGrath stepped to take the managerial reins back in the summer after leaving Mickleover FC to take over at Buxton from the departed Craig Elliott who is now manager at Bradford Park Avenue along with assistant and former Ofton manager John McDermott.
After a slow start to the season which saw the Bucks hovering near the relegation places in the early weeks a recent improvement in results has seen the Bucks surge up the table to be battling for a play off berth after winning seven of their last twelve in all comps.
While Billy Heah`s men have not been at their free flowing best in recent weeks hard work has seen the Reds deep deep to claim some good results with Ofton arriving in North Derbyshire unbeaten in four away games and looking to firm up their place in the play offs ahead of a tricky run of games in January starting with the visit of table toppers Curzon to the Impact on New Years Day.
