Alfreton Town host Derbyshire Rivals Buxton FC on Boxing Day in the first of a crucial festive double header in National League North.
Saturday`s 3-1 defeat at Boston United made it just 1 win in the last nine games in all competitions. A Jordan Thewlis penalty, his eleventh goal of the season had brought the Reds level at the Jakemans Stadium but second half goals from Keziah Martin and Jimmy Knowles handed the three points to the Pilgrims.
The defeat saw Alfreton drop to 13th in the league standings with the Reds points tally of 32 just six higher than that of Kings Lynn in the final relegation place.
Alfreton will be keen to pick up some wins before a hectic January schedule which sees 4 away league games on consecutive Tuesday nights.
In the corresponding fixture last season Alfreton won 3-0 thanks to goals from Dwayne Wiley, Jordan Thewlis and a trademark header from Matt Rhead sealed the win which was Ofton`s first at home on Boxing Day since 2011. Buxton lie in 15th in the league standings on 30 points and last time out drew 0-0 with league leaders Scunthorpe United. The Bucks also recently signed winger Dylan Mottley Henry on loan from South Shields.
