FA CUP REPLAY PREVIEW | Walsall v Alfreton Town

Towerzey Lisa10 Dec 2023 - 16:27

Reds travel to the West Midlands looking to become history makers

Following a week`s rest from action Alfreton Town make the trip to the Poundland Bescot Stadium on Tuesday night to contest a Emirates FA Cup Second Round replay to determine who will travel to St Mary`s in the Third Round to face the might of Southampton FC.

After a performance packed full of grit, determination and courage to more than hold their own against their EFL opposition Alfreton will still be confident of advancing through to the Third Round for the First Time in the clubs hsitory
Indeed it was Billy Heath`s lions in Red that defended like their lives depending on it putting everything on the line for the cause, who during the course of the tie created the better opportunities in a keenly contested game.

The Reds were passionately supported by a huge Impact Arena attendance with the original tie broadcast on BBC I Player to a wider audience.
Everyone in a home shirt could be proud of their efforts and will be confident of pulling off the shock result at the Bescot.

Alfreton were not in action on Saturday after they were knocked out of the FA Trophy earlier in the season by Macclesfield FC.

On the other hand the pressure mounting on Mat Sadler`s position as Head Coach of the Saddlers was eased somewhat after his side came from behind to record a 2-1 away win at an out of form Notts County. Oisin McEntee and Isaac Hutchinson scored in the second half, Walsall`s first goals in their last four games. The win moved the West Midlands club up to 16th in League Two with Alfreton down to 10th in National League North due to their inactivity.
