Reds to go head to head with Silkmen for FA Cup First Round place

Alfreton Town host Macclesfield FC in the Fourth and final Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday at the Impact Arena in a highly anticipated fixture.

The Reds are just a single victory away from a coveted place in the First Round Proper and a potential opportunity of a clash against EFL opposition.
Its five years since Alfreton made it this far when a commanding 4-0 win over St Neots Town at the Impact Arena secured safe passage to the First Round for the ninth time in the Clubs history.
On this occasion Alfreton face Macclesfield FC of the Northern Premier League Premier Division for the first time. The club is a phoenix club after the original Macclesfield Town went bust in 2020. The "Silkmen" have won back to back promotions in their two seasons to date and are many peoples favourites to earn promotion from the Northern Premier League Premier to the National League North. The Cheshire based club have beaten Whickham, Derbyshire Rivals Buxton, and Warrington Rylands in the previous round to get this far. Macclesfield are managed by Mark Duffy who played for Burton Albion during a long playing career and have Robbie Savage in the boardroom.
Last time out Macclesfield raced into a 3-0 lead away at league leaders Radcliffe FC but went on to succumb by 4-3 scoreline in a surprise defeat. It was their first defeat in 8 games and they had only conceded 3 goals since August prior to the game.
Alfreton faced Macclesfield Town 3 times in the FA Cup losing all three. They lost 2-1 in the First Qualifying Round in the 1966/67 season.
More recently the two sides famously faced each other in the First Round Proper in the 2004/05 season when a scrambled Mark Sale goal deep in added time at the Impact Arena forced a replay in front of over 2000 fans. Macclesfield won the replay 2-0 at Moss Rose.
In the most recent meeting between the clubs at the same stage of the 2015/16 edition of the FA Cup. Alfreton fought back from 3-0 to cut the deficit to 3-2 shortly after half time thanks to goals from Sam Jones and Jordan Robertson but Macclesfield held on to seal the win and a meeting with Portsmouth in the First Round.

Alfreton Town head into the fixture unbeaten in seven games in all competitions with wins over Cleethorpes Town and Emley AFC so far in this years edition.
In a blow Lewis Salmon was forced off injured against Warrington Town in the last game and looks to be set for an extended period on the sidelines. Jordan Thewlis is close to a return after over a month out and will be pushing for a place in the team.

Billy Heath will be wary of the tough prospition that Macclesfield present and will be keen for an improvement in performance from the last two matches.
Victory for Alfreton will seal qualification for the proper rounds of the FA Cup for the tenth time in the clubs history with £9375 awarded to the winners. The losers collect £3125 with any potential replay to take place on Tuesday the 17th of October at Moss Rose.
