Reds set to do battle with Moors for a place in the First Round Proper draw

Its back to back Emirates FA Cup ties for Alfreton Town as the Reds are set to host National League North rivals Spennymoor Town on Saturday In the Fourth and final qualifying round of the prestigious competition.

After two frustrating postponements Billy Heath`s side finally set up the tie by putting Southern League Premier Division side Biggleswade Town to the sword in the driving rain. Having found the net only 5 times in their previous 7 outings the Reds put their troubles in front of goal to the back of their minds as a superb display saw Alfreton romp to a commanding 6-0 victory.
Billy Fewster was imperious and scored a brace to take his season`s tally to four. Jake Day who came off the bench in the second got off the mark with a double of his own while top scorer Jed Abbey took his tally to six and Liam Waldock completed the scoring with 10 minutes to play.

The victory saw Alfreton awarded £5625 taking their total earnings to £9000 so far in this years FA Cup? Victors of Saturday tie will take home a further £9375 with the losing club awarded £3125.

Alfreton will be keen of course to qualify for the potential riches and extra profile that the Proper Rounds of the FA Cup can offer but will be keen not to underestimate Spennymoor Town. The Moors are an established National League North and unlike the Reds have not tasted the FA Cup First Round for eight seasons.

Graeme Lee`s side have beaten Morpeth Town 3-1 at home and in the previous round high flying Chorley 1-0 at the Brewery Field in the previous round to set up the tie.

Billy Heath will be looking to qualify for the First Round of the prestigious competition for the third time during his tenure at the Reds taking the clubs total First Round appearances to 12.

The Reds have an imperious home record which stands at 21 home games unbeaten in all competitions but will be keen to avoid a replay as Spennymoor hold a similarly strong record of 18 matches unbeaten. Ironically both teams last suffered a home defeat to the same opposition - Brackley Town, Alfreton in November 2023, Spennymoor Town in January 2024.

A replay would also see Alfreton face off against Moors three times in just 10 days with Spennymoor set to make their league visit to DE55 on the 22nd of this month.
