Alfreton Town to play host on Boxing Day for the first time in 10 years as they host Pilgrims

The Impact Arena is set to host a Boxing Day bash on Sunday afternoon as Alfreton Town face Boston United in the Reds’ final home clash of the calendar year.

Billy Heath’s men will head into the tie full of confidence following their recent FA Trophy success. An emphatic 3-1 away victory over Curzon Ashton ensured their place in the fourth round of the competition for the first time since the 2004/05 season. Their trophy triumph stretched their unbeaten run to four matches with all eyes now set on making it five this weekend.

Boston are in a similarly rich vein of form having won four of their last five encounters. The Pilgrims join Alfreton in the fourth round of the FA Trophy following a convincing 4-1 thrashing of Kidderminster Harriers in their last outing.

Funnily enough, the last time these two sides met was on Boxing Day last year. The Reds were on the wrong side of the scoreline that day, losing 2-0 with both goals coming from former Town players just to rub salt into the wounds.

All roads lead to a frantic affair for this encounter. Two sides desperate to continue their good form, the hosts with revenge in sight and three crucial points up for grabs as the play-off race begins to heat up.

Reds defender James Jones will be in contention for a first league appearance for exactly a calendar year after he returned with a reasssured performance against Curzon Ashton last time out following his loan at Hyde United

What a fantastic late Christmas gift a victory would be on Sunday.
