Reds boss Jake Buxton has made two new additions to his playing squad ahead of the visit of Kidderminster Harriers to the Impact Arena in National League North action on Saturday.
The First signing is defender Bayley McCann on loan from EFL League One side Barnsley.
McCann, 19 is the son of Northern Irishman Grant McCann who has significant experience as a EFL player at a host of clubs including Cheltenham Town, Peterborough United and Scunthorpe United where as he player he was on the scoresheet as Alfreton were beaten 4-0 by the Iron on their first appearance in the FA Cup Second Round back in 2008.
After coming through the Youth set up at Peterborough United Bayley signed for Barnsley FC.
McCann enjoyed a breakout season at the Tykes last term making his EFL League One debut and EFL Trophy bow in a Barnsley shirt. It was out on loan however at National League North rivals Peterborough Sports where he made his biggest impression making 21 appearances for Sports last season. McCann played the full 90 minutes in Sports 3-1 home win over Ofton and found the net twice during his time at PIMS Park in a 3-1 home win over Warrington Town and a 3-1 defeat at Buxton. McCann put in several eye-catching performances which prompted Peterborough Sports to sign him for a second loan spell at the beginning of the 2025/26 season.
Bayley has made a further 7 appearances for the Cambridgeshire outfit this campaign all in the month of August including scoring the winning goal away to Marine in a 1-0 win back on the 30th of August.
Bayley McCann has also made two appearances for Northern Ireland Under 21s so far this season. McCann has signed for the Reds until January 2026 and goes straight in to the squad for Saturday`s game with Kidderminster Harriers.
Our second loan spell is 19 year old midfielder Harry Hawkins on loan from local EFL Championship sde Derby County. Hawkins has progressed very well through the age groups of the Academy set up at Pride Park making a number of experiences in the PL2 for Derby.
Harry Hawkins has also cut his teeth in non league football as he helped AFC Telford United to gain promotion to the Enterprise National League North last season. After also signing for the Bucks on a 28 day loanin December 2024 Hawkins put in several impression showings which saw his loan extended until the end of the season as the talented midfielder made a total of 17 appearances for the Shropshire side.
So far this season Hawkins has gained some experience of the National League North making three appearances against Hereford, Curzon Ashton and Spennymoor Town while on loan at new boys Bedford Town from the Rams.
Harry has joined the Reds on an initial 28 day loan and is available for selection for Saturday`s game against Harriers
