After the disappointment of Tuesday night, manager Jake Buxton opts for 2 changes giving Taylor Anderson his full debut for the Reds as well as opting for Ligendza to lead the line. Making way for these changes would be Joe Dodoo and Jed Abbey.

Kick-off: Buxton 0-0 Alfreton Town FC

The Reds, debuting their brand new all white away strip would get us underway in traditional style by rolling the ball back to Hunt from kick-off, who sends the ball high and long putting pressure on the Buxton back line right from the go. On this occasion however the ball would be over cooked and go out for a goal kick.

The first chance of the game would fall the way of the visiting side when Taylor Anderson jinked past his man before sending Ligendza threw behind Kieron Burton and George Ward. Ligendza does well to chop back inside before finding Harry Perritt just inside the box who fires low only to find his effort blocked, only for the ball to bounce back his way but his resulting header would be cleared by Stephenson.

More early pressure from the Reds this time from the left-hand side with Lewis Salmon who goes past Stephenson before delivering into the six-yard box, only to find Max Bardell who clears, but his clearance can only reach the edge where Adam Lund meets the ball, but his effort was poor, dribbling out well wide of the goal.

The hosts would take the lead in the 11th minute when Ryan Mclean gets the better of Newall, rushing into the box from the right hand side, Mclean slides the ball across the six-yard box where the ball is not dealt with by the Reds, eventually falling to the feet of Greaves who slots the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

Things would get worse for the Reds when a long diagonal ball across the pitch is not dealt with by Taylor Anderson giving Kieron Burton the opportunity to run round the outside and slide the bouncing ball into Harry Burgoyne near post, doubling the hosts advantage.

Buxton would take full advantage of a shell-shocked Alfreton Town when Ryan Mclean was released down the right channel by Stephenson giving Mclean the opportunity to slide the ball across the face of the 6-yard box where Louis Brennan was there to tap home and add a third for the hosts.

A free kick sent long by Burgoyne would be won by Tate Campbell who does well to touch the ball down before floating a ball over the top of the Alfreton defence where Leckie does well to come around and cover the ball but fails to make contact with the ball allowing Tai Sodje to run one on one with Burgoyne and cooly slot the ball underneath the on rushing keeper and adding a fourth.

A long ball by Joe Young was headed clear by Max Hunt where Perritt does well to pick up the ball for the Reds who work the ball back to Burgoyne in goal. Burgoyne attempts to go long first time but slices his pass resulting in the ball falling at the feet of Olie Greaves who finds Mclean who takes two touches to get the ball onto his left and fire the ball below Burgoyne and into the middle of the goal.

Buxton would see out the half enjoying the line share off the possession, not allowing Alfreton to get comfortable on the ball. Louise Brennan would have the best opportunity to add to the leaf when he was sent through by Tai Sodje but a combination of a tight angle and Burgoyne making himself big in net do enough to put Brennan off, who fires his effort wide of the far post.

The referee would bring a horror first half to a close after 3 minutes of stoppage time.

Half-time: Buxton 5-0 Alfreton Town FC

The hosts would come out for the second in much the same vein in which they finished the first, controlling the ball and working their way through the Alfreton lines. Buxton’s best chance of the opening exchanges fell to Ryan Mclean who opted to go alone against the Reds backline, eventually running the ball out of play for a goal kick.

A positive opening 15 minutes for the Reds, who despite working openings and delivering several crosses into the box are unable to work Joe Young in the Buxton goal.

As we cross over the hour mark Burgoyne is called into action when Buxton recycles the ball around the Alfreton box, working the ball to skipper Connor Kirby who fires at goal only to be met by the palms of Burgoyne parrying the ball out for a corner.

Buxton do well to work another fine save from Burgoyne when Tai Sodje is played through one on one with the keeper who stands up strong to deny Sodje parrying the ball back to edge where Oli Greaves fires well over.

Buxton would grab a sixth when a corner played along the deck was not dealt with at the front post leaving Kieron Burton to smash the ball past Burgoyne, adding Buxton’s sixth of the afternoon.

Following the goal, Buxton would make a double substitution replacing Greaves and Sodje with Martin and Ebanks. Jake Buxton would also turn to the bench bringing on Dodoo, Abbey and Fresneda for Cantrill, Salmon and Fewster.

The referee would bring proceedings to an end after three minutes of stoppage time.

Full-Time: Buxton 6-0 Alfreton Town FC

A day to forget for the Reds this evening as we now turn our attention to next Saturday’s Enterprise National League North match at home against Kidderminster Harriers.
