Alfreton finally return to their humble home when they entertain Chester FC tonight under the lights at the Impact in another huge league clash.
The fixture will be the much anticipated first home game in charge for new manager Jake Buxton as the Reds look to build on the away point gained in Jake`s first game in charge at Peterborough Sports at the weekend.
On a pivotal afternoon in National League North when all members of the bottom four faced off against each other, Alfreton were out of the blocks like a shot looking to make a good impression for Buxton. Indeed the Reds took a deserved lead when a long ball from George Willis was flicked in to the path of an onrushing Jed Abbey who showed some great composure to take the ball in his stride confidently before rounding the Peterborough Sports goalkeeper Peter Crook and slotting the ball home
Alfreton continued to dominate and had chances to further their advantage following a series of set pieces. However as the half wore on the hosts who sat in 23rd place in the table began to grab a foothold in the contest and dominate possession.
Jake Buxton`s side battled gamely with discipline however and showed great grit and determination to keep hold of their lead. Indeed Goalkeeper George Willis had little to do other than a strong hand to thwart a powerful effort from Dan Jarvis.
Alfreton were cruelly denied all three points – which their performance had deserved – when a loose ball found its way in to the path of Jarvis who saw his shot in the final minutes of the ninety take a deflection which sent the ball past Willis as Sports grabbed a share of the spoils to leave both sides entrenched in the relegation zone.
The Reds will hope to return to home comforts in their first game in DE55 since a slender 1-0 win against AFC Telford more than a month ago on the 20th of September. Indeed Ofton have won two of their last three home games and will be hoping to extend that run still further against Chester tomorrow.
After the agony of a play off final defeat to Scunthorpe United last season, Chester under the management of Calum McIntyre have really struggled to hit the same heights this term. Another draw on Saturday their fifth in the last six league games stretching the winless run to six games leaves the Seals languishing in 18th position. Calum McIntyre will be desperate for a positive result to ease the pressure on his position but the knowledge that an Alfreton win and a series of results elsewhere could see Chester plunge in to the relegation places.
Given that the last six meetings between the two sides at the Impact have ended in a draw and Chester have drawn half of their league games so far this season the draw looks the most likely outcome but Jake Buxton and Reds supporters alike will be hoping for maximum points to record a first ever home win against Chester and light the blue touch paper on a brand new era for the club.
