Jake Buxton began his illustrious football career as a defender at Derby County, Burton Albion, and Mansfield Town. He is no stranger to Alfreton Town FC, having made eight loan appearances for the Reds during the 2003/2004 season. After his playing career, he served as player-manager for Burton Albion before joining Derby County’s coaching staff as a Professional Development Coach, later becoming U21 Head Coach. Most recently, he held the role of Senior Transition Coach, overseeing the pathway from academy to first-team football.
“We’re thrilled Jake’s chosen to return to Alfreton and build something special. He checks every box in terms of ability and experience, but above all stands out for his character. Jake cares about winning and doing things the right way,” said Chairman William Rush.
Living locally and once a Red on loan, Buxton will uphold Alfreton’s honest-graft, hard-nosed reputation while adding the progression focus he led at Derby County.
“Delighted to be offered the opportunity to manage Alfreton Town Football Club. Thank you to both Derby County and Alfreton Town for making this happen,” said Jake Buxton.
Buxton will play a key role in driving the club forward, leading efforts to modernise both on and off the pitch through a focus on performance, analytics, and player development. His appointment marks an important step in aligning the club’s football operations with its long-term vision for growth and sustainability.
Alfreton thanks Ryan Conneelly for his successful tenure as Interim Head Coach and is pleased that he will continue to operate as Head Coach of ATFC’s U23s and the Professional Development Programme (PDP).
